Overt discrimination is rare. What clients describe is usually subtler: assignments quietly reassigned, feedback that changes tone after a disclosure, a promotion that goes elsewhere without explanation.
Look for the pattern, not the single moment
One decision rarely proves anything. A sequence — especially one that begins after a protected disclosure, complaint, or request for accommodation — is a different matter.
Keep a contemporaneous record
Dates, participants, and exact words. Save emails to a personal account where permitted by your employer's policy.
Understand the clocks
Discrimination claims carry filing deadlines that can be short. Waiting to see whether things improve can quietly foreclose an option.
If something at work does not feel right, a confidential conversation costs nothing and often brings clarity.
